Basic Facts How long have you been in business? We opened in 1999 as the first kennel in Brevard County to offer crate free options.
How is Canine Cabana different than other boarding kennels? We are the only local kennel staffed 24 hours a day. Our staff is CPR and First aid qualified. We have over a decade of experience socializing dogs and were the first to do so in the county. We offer more grooming/spa services then any other location. Our daycare program is a mixture of indoor/outdoor play and is never interrupted by bad weather, ie rain or extreme heat. We are the only kennel that offers a treadmill for your dog. Our webcams are in the rooms where you can see your dogs interact during the day with other dogs. Check out our grooming page for the services we offer.
Do you provide any other services besides boarding? Yes we offer doggie daycare, grooming, training, massage, treadmill, pet food and clothes.
We have been recommended as the place to board for the last 10 years by local veterinarians. The hotels and resorts also recommend us first.
Reservations are required during peak season and outside of normal business hours. For safety purposes, we require a copy of your drivers license, a copy of your pets shot record and a $25 non refundable fee before we will approve your reservation outside of normal business hours. If these items are not received prior to your check in we will consider it null and void. We DO NOT open the door or answer the phone when we are closed except for those that have made prior arrangements.
Peak fees are during the holidays to ensure your dog has a confirmed reservation. As we get full during the holidays, it is imperative that you show up so we do not have an empty space that could have gone to someone else. The fee is $10 per day no matter how many pets you bring. The $10 is applied to each day that you stay. The fees are non refundable.
As a 20 year naval veteran myself, I commend those that have served in our armed forces. All active duty and retired veterans receive a 10% discount on boarding with the appropriate ID card.
What happens if there is an emergency? We would call you immediately if there is an issue with your pet. It will be your decision on how we proceed. During business hours we would go to your local veterianian. After hours to a local 24 hour animal clinic. All of our staff are trained in Pet CPR and First Aid.
Can you be reached 24 hours a day? We DO NOT answer the phone or open the door after normal business hours unless you have been approved for a reservation outside of regular business hours. This is our chance to get our many kennel chores completed without interruption. You are more than welcome to leave a message and we will return your call the next day during normal business hours.
How close are you to the cruise lines? We are about 6 miles from Port Canaveral. Leave our kennel heading east on SR520 to A1A North to the signs for the Port.
Boarding & Daycare I see many local kennels trashing the use of crates and yet they tout they are veterinarian recommended. Most veterinarians will tell you to crate train your dog because it is a place of safety for them. We try to make the transition from your house to our kennel as easy as possible with the least amount of stress. People usually don't have dog runs in their house, but they do have crates. If your dog is not crate friendly, we do offer a crate free option.
We are often asked how big our crates are so here are the measurements. Small - 36L x 22W x 24H. Medium - 42L x 25W x 28H, Large - 48L x 30W x 36H. Extra Large - 54L x 34W x 45H. When we have space we always upgrade to a larger crate at no extra charge.
How often are crates and rooms cleaned? Crates are cleaned a minimum of twice a day. Anytime the crate or play areas are soiled we clean them immediately. We change bowls out at the morning feeding and the evening feeding. Clean bedding is put down in the morning and the evening.
Is there a discount for multiple dogs? After the first pet there is a 25% discount on each additional pet. There is a 50% discount on each additional dog for regular daycare.
Do you charge for medications? Yes we charge $1 per feeding when we administer medications.
Do we bring our own food or do you use your food? We prefer you bring the food your pet is used to eating. Makes for a smoother transition as boarding can be stressful on a pet.
Can we bring toys and blankets, etc? You can bring toys, blankets etc for the crate if you think it will make them more comfortable.
Yes we do board cats. We use a large crate for them to stay in. Charge is $10 per day.
Socialization is what we are all about. We socialize based on size of dogs. All non aggressive dogs get doggie daycare when they board at no additional charge.
If a dog acts aggressively during his/her stay, we will not allow the dog to particpate in group play time or have walks while other dogs are playing. Aggressive dogs only boarding option is the silver plan as we would never put our other guests at risk.
Yes we do. The silver plan is the only option available for unaltered pets. Your pet will still receive all of the play time but will be taken out by themselves.
How much outdoor playtime do the dogs receive? We take the dogs outside for 20 minutes each play group. During the florida summers and our occasional cold spells, we have found dogs do not want to stay outside for more than 20 minutes. We have large climate controlled play areas indoors when they are not outside. Whichever boarding option you choose, your dog will get 100 minutes of outdoor play.
What happens in your doggie daycare program? Daycare is about your dog learning to become socialized with other dogs. We introduce dogs to each other based on size. If you choose the silver plan your dog plays with other dogs when they go outside. If you choose the gold option, your dog will have continuous play from drop off to pick up.
Is your boarding and daycare play time supervised? We do not leave any of our dogs unsupervised.
Are baths mandatory when boarding? Baths are not mandatory but highly suggested. Your dog WILL get dirty. We don't walk your dog on a leash. Your dog will be outside rolling on the ground, playing with other dogs and without a doubt, will get dirty. Schedule a bath and have them smelling nice on the car ride home. If your dog does soil his crate, then the bath is mandatory for cleanliness purposes.
Yes we do. We have an unique approach to how we use webcams. If you choose the Gold or Platinum boarding options you can view your dog playing between the hours of 8am and 6pm. Our webcams are on during business hours.
Why are passwords required for the webcams? When we first started using webcams we had them open. Then customers complained that anyone could view their dog and know they were on vacation. Now we have them password protected. You must ask for the password for us to give it to you.
A treadmill is used for many different purposes. With the heat here in Florida your dog may not be able to get the exercised it needs. It is also great for weight management and building muscle.
They were originally designed for our working dogs in afghanistan to allow the german shepherd's to work longer in the severe heat. They utilize compartments that have ice packets to keep the dog cool. We rent to large dogs only at $5 per day.
Spa Treatment What does it cost to groom a dog or cat? There are too many variables to give anything more than an estimate over the phone. Bring your dog or cat into our shop and speak to the groomer directly. She will then know what you are looking for and can give you a price.
Do you accept walk ins for grooming? Walk ins are always welcome but please understand that the wait can be longer than normal on a busy day.
What days and hours does the groomer work? Monday thru Saturday our groomer is here from approximately 10am to 4pm.
Yes we do paint toenails and you can choose between red, blue, green and pink.
We have dyed some very pretty mohawks on dogs.
Our Pet Boutique has a nice stock of clothes for small dogs. Our seamstress is available for custom orders.
We currently sell 16 different types of holistic pet food.
Dog massage is very important to dogs of all ages. See our massage page for reasons to have a massage. There has been a proliferation of human massage therapists offering dog massage. It is not the same. Make sure you seek out an experienced massage therapist that has graduated from an accredited dog massage school. The owner of the kennel graduated from the Rocky Mountain School of Animal Acupressure and Massage.
